Friends of Dubuque County Conservation is a nonprofit organization powered by community members who care deeply about protecting and enhancing our county parks. Through volunteerism, donations, and special events, the Friends support programs and projects that connect people of all ages to the outdoors.
Founded in 2004, the Friends work alongside the Dubuque County Conservation Board to expand access to nature, strengthen environmental education, and promote outdoor recreation. Their impact can be seen across the county—from funding bus scholarships that bring students to parks for their first outdoor experiences, to enhancing summer camps with kayaks and equipment, to supporting beloved events like the annual Gnome Hunt.
The Friends also help make hands-on learning possible through initiatives like maple syruping programs, stargazing with telescopes, trail races, and foraging workshops in partnership with local organizations. At its heart, the Friends group is about removing barriers, creating opportunities, and building a lasting connection between people and the natural world.
