Everyday Needs, Life-Changing Impact

Opening Doors empowers women and children experiencing homelessness in the Dubuque community by providing shelter, personalized support, and a pathway toward long-term stability. Since 2000, we have served more than 5,000 women and their children, helping them find healing, hope, and home through our continuum of care: emergency shelter at Teresa Shelter, transitional housing at Maria House, and supportive housing at Francis Apartments.

For Great Give Day, your gift will directly support two immediate and essential resident needs: over-the-counter medications and transportation assistance.

Many women arrive at Opening Doors with little to no access to basic health items or reliable transportation. Over-the-counter medications help meet urgent daily needs such as pain relief, cold and flu care, first aid, allergy relief, and children’s wellness items—allowing residents to remain healthy and focused on rebuilding their lives.

Transportation support through bus passes and taxi vouchers removes one of the biggest barriers to stability. These funds help residents get to job interviews, medical and mental health appointments, substance use treatment, court dates, childcare, and other critical community services.

These everyday essentials make long-term healing and independence possible. Your support helps ensure women and children can access the care, opportunities, and resources needed to move forward.
