Organized in 1874 as a refuge for homeless women and children, Mt. Pleasant Home is now a residence for people with inadequate support systems.  They thrive in our warm and caring atmosphere of this beautiful Victorian mansion. Mt. Pleasant Home is the perfect solution for those who no longer want to live alone, cook, or maintain a house. Mt. Pleasant Home provides three meals each day, served family style; weekly housekeeping and laundry; wellness checks; 24-hour staffing, and much more. Planned project for 2025 is the replacement of a dated walk-in cooler refrigeration system.

It's getting to be that time of the year again. With the upcoming great give day hosted by the City of Dubuque and the community foundation of greater dubuque, scheduled for May 21 2025, we are asking for help and support from friends and followers for some planned updates to our infrastructure here at the home.

We are currently planning a facelift, and update to one of our main walk in cooler areas, and are looking to earmark some funding to help us along in the project. The current equipment we have is out of date, and relies on obsolete, and aged technology. The refrigerant system has been found to use coolant that is no longer able to be easily sourced, and there is a wasteful aspect of the water cooling jacket that is currently burning through 1.8 gallons of water a minute to keep the motor chilled.

If you, or someone you know, may be interested in helping to support us in this upcoming venture, all donations would be so greatly appreciated, not only by our administration, but also by the residents who call Mount Pleasant Home, their Home, and the community members who partake in our food pantry options as well.

Testimonials

Mt. Pleasant: A Welcoming Home for 150 Years
In 1874, Dubuque widows, orphans and abandoned women and children with no relatives or friends to take them in had two hopeless alternatives: beg and live on the streets or go to the county poor farm. Horrified by either alternative, 53 prominent ladies (including the genteel Julia Langworthy and the newly arrived Dr. Nancy Hill - founder of what is now Hillcrest) stepped forward to incorporate Dubuque's oldest non-denominational charity: Mt. Pleasant Home.
