What is Great Give Day?
Great Give Day is a 24-hour, online giving event organized annually by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque to grow philanthropy in its seven-county region, including Allamakee, Clayton, Clinton, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson and Jones Counties. The minimum donation is $10 and there is no maximum. Bonus grants will be made available to amplify charitable donations. The goal is to inspire the community to come together for 24 hours to contribute as many charitable dollars as possible to support the work of local nonprofit organizations. Great Give Day is based on other successful giving days hosted by community foundations across the country.
When is Great Give Day?
Great Give Day takes place on Wednesday, May 21 from 12:00am CT - 11:59:59pm CT.
How does Great Give Day work?
Donors visit greatgiveday.org and use the donate button at the top of the main website to browse for organizations by location, cause/category or find a specific organization to make a gift. Donors can also connect to the site with a direct link sent to them by participating organizations via email or shared on social media. Donors looking to donate to a new organization or unsure who to select can search by the causes they love most.
Donors can give online beginning Monday, May 19 through Wednesday, May 21 at 11:59:59 p.m. CT.
The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque works with corporate partners, donors and affiliate foundations to secure bonus dollars to be awarded to participating nonprofits on Great Give Day through hourly prizes and grand prizes. The prize schedule will depend on the total bonus dollars raised and will be posted at www.GreatGiveDay.org once it is finalized.

The Community Foundation hosts Great Give Day as a service to the nonprofits we support.
Yes! To boost buzz about Great Give Day, the Community Foundation and its affiliate foundations will promote the event through various media channels, which may include print advertising, social media, radio and billboards; strategies will vary based on each market. Based on donor feedback, community members are more likely to give in response to individual nonprofit requests, so be sure to do your part to engage your donors! Participating organizations are expected to market this event and only your organization is responsible for your fundraising results. If your organization is not able to fully participate by promoting the event and engaging donors on our behalf, the Community Foundation recommends you wait until you are able to commit to full participation.
Any nonprofit organization that has an endowed fund with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque may participate in Great Give Day. Nonprofits must complete a profile on www.GreatGiveDay.org by the registration deadline to participate. Nonprofit leaders decide whether to use Great Give Day to build their endowments or fundraise for a special project.
What are the benefits of participating in Great Give Day?

Fees on gifts are charged directly by credit card processors and Mightycause, and do not benefit the Community Foundation or its affiliates.
How can our organization be most successful during Great Give Day?
Check out the Nonprofit Toolkit for helpful tips and tricks, including marketing templates, fundraising strategies, training opportunities, and more. Using these tools can help you increase your donations!
To ignite the maximum amount of generosity on Great Give Day, the Community Foundation invites individual and corporate sponsors to contribute to a prize pool to fund prize hours throughout the event. These hourly contests drive momentum, spur friendly competition and motivate community members to give. In the past, we have also used the pool to award grand prizes based on the total number of donations (not dollars raised) to level the playing field between large and small nonprofits. Because corporate sponsorships qualify for the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax Credit, any prizes that a nonprofit wins will be directed to its endowment fund, regardless of how it chooses to direct the rest of its Great Give Day gifts. For purposes of awarding prizes, multiple donations from one donor email address to the same nonprofit will count as one gift. Organizations cannot donate to themselves.

Do nonprofits need to issue thank you letters and tax receipts to their Great Give Day donors?
Donor stewardship is an important part of Great Give Day. Donors who give via the Great Give Day website will automatically receive an acknowledgment email that includes a tax receipt upon successful processing of their donation. This email is generated by the Mightycause platform. Nonprofits are highly encouraged to thank donors separately by phone, letter or email.
Navigate to your organization's donations report via the left-hand side of your dashboard and select "Reports" > "Donations."
Filter the donation report by donor name and resend their donation receipt by selecting the tool icon (looks like three dots in a row) next to the corresponding donation.
You will then be prompted to enter the donor's preferred email address and may click "Send" when ready.
