Support Dubuque Dads

𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘰 the NFTS Men's Social Club, I 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦. As a family experiences the loss of a pregnancy or a child, each parent grieves and processes this loss differently. For men, traditionally they find that they have learned to grieve alone, and to carry the load for their partner. NFTS is working to end the stigma by opening a dialogue around pregnancy and infant loss and giving loss fathers a space to honor their grief and celebrate their babies. NFTS welcomes all grieving parents, no matter their background or the type or stage of their loss. 

For several years, we have provided peer-to-peer support groups in the Dubuque area for loss Moms, and are now offering the same groups for Men. This unique approach and space for dads to connect and offer space for healing has had a tremendous response in attendance in the past few months through in-person and virtual meetings.

By holding Dad’s Groups, NFTS helps parents find support from others who have experienced loss. Research suggests that support groups may play a significant role in mitigating the psychological impact of pregnancy and infant loss. They help families openly share their babies’ stories, connect parents with a community of people who understand, reduce feelings of isolation, and normalize the complicated emotions around loss.
